The Dark Knight Review by Fish

"I want to show you all...a little trick...I'm gonna make this, disappear" *balances the knife on the table, with a thug about to make his punch on the joker, The Joker dodges and punches back, only to then slam the thugs face onto the knife balanced straight into the eye thus killing him*
"Ta-Daaaa!"

Photobucket

Lets start with the possible only flaw, if anyone who has watched this sees one (I certainly do not but its worth mentioning): Christopher Nolan likes to give depth to every character you watch on in his movies, and with that helps tells a story. because of that there's so much energy and ambition happening in the movie, therefore it would feel crammed and a little bit choppy, with one scene happening and then straight after something else. But that is only to be said if you watch this movie a second time round...

And with that, this movie is worth watching over and over again. This is Batman the way he should be, from Begins Christopher Nolan did brilliantly to focus more on the characters than believing in a franchise based theory. Bruce Wayne is more believable, a character that is in a world thats a door away from reality we experience, it feels that different about watching this movie. It also shows Batman is the only superhero that isn't in fact 'super', But portaying how he defeats his enemies is absolute class, and again how it could work in reality. He relies on technology, muscle and training like his allies. breaks, faltering, there his foes.
Christian Bale's position as Batman should not be over-seen, but his brilliance brings so much depth to Batman, light and shade, and tons of compassion comparing to those previously as Batman, who would appear more monochromed. And this only helps throughout the movie make you think and go "you know this could actually play in real part of life, these characters, the scene, the threats, the power people are given, it could all play in reality". As Bruce wants an end to his Batman era after believing Gotham has his 'White Knight' seen in Harvey Dent (Played by Aaron Eckhart) it ends up becoming a 'desperate times call for desperate measure's moment' after mob bosses, in Gotham unite together along with a face painted psycho with one thing to simply offer on: Kill The Batman...

Which Leads onto the Joker (Heath Ledger), who was absolutely class. To say he stole the show is much to ask but Heath's Performance as The Joker showed what made him a determined great actor, and this would have indeed boosted him to the top. Like Batman, The Joker was so believable to what he did, Christopher Nolan in fact spot-on made the Joker how should be - a complete psychopath who's corrupted into playing mind games that even Batman wouldn't be able to handle. Its what you needed, a true villain who again has no powers himself, just guns, a group willing to kill off (without them knowing), brains, and a 'sense of humour' in personality. No matter how good Jack Nicholson was, Heath Ledger, this Joker, is what makes a great villain.
He wanted one thing: to see the batman show his identity, and to that he would kill someone everyday until this was done. When you thought he was caught, or out-smarted, The Joker just laughs it off and would have to people fooled again, resulting in twice/three times as many people killed off. The talk he has about Batman seen as a freak "like me!" as he would would say, it showed that balance between them - one seen as the 'Icon' of Gotham whilst not wanting it, but saves for the right of things rather than inspire and take fame (*cough* Mr. Clooney & Chris O' Donnell *cough*), The other who takes advantage of being seen as a freak, helping him to make the public more scared, and show his true faith to the meaning of death to people.

This movie showed true meaning to mind games, motivation (as shown by Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent), your honest heroes (seen in Gary Oldman as Lt. James Gordon) and justice, which in fact each character played out and kept this film alive because you could get into the characters so easily. Michael Caine as Alfred delivered, Maggie Gyllenhal, though not really a fan, played Rachel Dawes & showed more of a sensitive and caring side towards Bruce Wayne (compared to the flat Katie Holmes), even Monique Curnen, who appeared in Gotham Knight, playing as Det. Ramirez had her role despte majorly shorter than the typical bigger stars.
Back to Aaron Eckhart, he as Harvey Dent has a strong sense of righteousness/betrayal/altering twist, playing a role in also being Bruce Wayne's rival to Rachel's love. I honestly think also the line of "you either die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain) is one of the coolest quotes said because you can even take that into a real life moment to possibly any certain situation, doesn't exactly have to be a hero/villain situation, but its words that is agreeable to take in.

This was not just a film, but really was a balance of a artful masterpiece. It had the right choice of music (Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard know epic music), The scenery of Gotham and use of Hong Kong, which both (one fake one real) have a dark aura about them involving big crimelords and corruption. And the script written by the directors brother partly (Jonathan Nolan) was realistic and insanely good. Had Heath Ledger been alive today I would still believe this movie deserves its glory as it really shows how classic Joker is Batman's nemesis that balance, the constant torture of pushing "the Bats!" limits to see if he kills. Oscar-wise? The Academy tends to ignore the likes of Animation movies and Comic book Superheroes to be added into their nominations, but the performances in The Dark Knight is up there as one of the best. Definately the best this year.

Overall: ***** 5 out of 5 stars, Move aside Jack Nicholson, and let's put Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George (grurgh!) Clooney and just to make sure, Adam West & Kevin Conroy in the cupboard for awhile, this is the real deal of Batman and how he should be. And that would prolly be the best ever Joker performance seen for a long long time. He doubted so many people with him being the Joker, me especially. before I was unsure but then remember seeing the teaser trailer for the first time, that one shot of Joker made me go "woah he looks seriously fucked up"..and then that chilling laugh happened...He never disappointed at all...

"And here..we...go.." simply ace.

Fish Presents: MMM! Pt. 2

Marathon Movie Moment...thats why its MMM...but yeah! As said this would be a certain feature of mine being able to especially post up something on this blog, help out and what not. First ever one I did was suffer through watching Crap Movies starring the likes of Steven Segal, Jaun Claude Van Damme, Stuff made from Uwe "CHYESS!" Boll and so on...

This time round for Part Deux, with the hype of 'The Dark Knight' I decided to go through watching Batman Movies of the Past, seeing just how much has changed from the batman then, to the new era that is now, from Begins. So check out the links below for each review, might find them funny, insulting, might even remember the damn movies and realize just how technology and storytelling has evolved (trust me, it seriously has).

Also there are links to Batman Begins, which was actually reviewed By Swiff, with me giving my little opinion, and also Gotham Knight - the animated chapters that bridge between Begins and Dark Knight. And as always, could always join up on the forums to equally have a laugh, or give your opinion going "DAMNIT FISH YOU'RE WRONG! KEATON WAS THE BEST YOU BITCH!" Or just join in general to you know...reply at anything else...we also like games and music..and books too...we be a mellow bunch.
ANYWAYS!:

Batman
Jack Nicholson was great to watch, he pulled off the typical maniac you would compare to the old cartoon Joker

Batman Returns
The Penguin was a huuuuuuge pervert

Batman Forever
“HARVEY! I AM BATMAN!!”

Batman & Robin
WHAT KILLED DA DINOSAURS? IEECE AAAAGE!!!!! (not sure if that was a joke intended thing, but he said it)

Batman Begins

Gotham Knight
The bridge between Begins And Dark Knight

Police hassling rappers again

This footage is a few weeks old now but i just wanted to get this out there as much as possible....i mean these rappers have made it and are off the streets now and the people they bring with them they've taken off the streets to let them roll with them, they arent doing anything wrong now, but the police just wont get it and they continue to hassle rappers instead of doing some real police work to try and prevent a few murders or crimes.

basically in this clip theres an altercation between dipset and the police, but before it really kicks off an officer pulls out a gun without even identifying himself as a cop...what are they supposed to think with that? its crazy, and by the way catch jim jones saying something along the lines of"why dont you do me like sean bell" (sean bell who was shot 50 times by police the day before his wedding for no reason)

Unsigned Hype

Welcome to This months Unsigned Hype.. This month im going to school you on an MC from my town thats been puttin in work for years now with a real hip hop sound.

Mc Life

Life MC is part of the duo, Phi Life Cypher, a Luton-based UK Hip Hop group. He has also released 3 solo albums to date with DJ Nappa. He is renowned for his freestyling capabilities, much off this can be watched on the internet site youtube.

His ability to come off the dome with sick lyrics make him a sharp mc, i've seen him perform a couple times now and he will literally ask the crowd to give him a topic and he'll freestyle about that topic for a good minute or so and do it in a way thats humerus and gets you gripped waiting to see what he'll say next.

His mixtapes are some of the sickest mixtapes ive hear let alone his albums. and the thing that grinds my gears as a hip hop fan is that he'll probably never get heard on a larger basis, thats an annoying fact considering his better than half the uk acts and three quarters of the usa acts put together.

Watch out for him regardless tho and visit his myspace here.
Also watch out for his partner in crime Si Philli (hence Phi Life Cypher)

we'll be back with unsigned hype next month

The Wire Gets Snubbed One Last TIme

NEW YORK - The Emmys said goodbye to “The Wire” with the same lack of respect that it showed the HBO drama during its acclaimed five-season run.

Call it the final nail in the row house.

The last season of “The Wire,” which was called “the best show on television” by more than a few critics, received only a single nomination on Thursday: The show’s creator, David Simon, and its most essential writer, Ed Burns, were nominated for outstanding writing in a drama series.

It was only the second nomination for “The Wire,” which was up for the same category in 2005.

“It’s like them never giving a Nobel Prize to Tolstoy,” said Jacob Weisberg, editor-in-chief of the Slate Group and a correspondent for Slate.com. “It doesn’t make Tolstoy look bad, it makes the Nobel Prize look bad.”

Weisberg, who has been an ardent supporter of “The Wire,” added, “It’s sort of proof if you needed any that the Emmys are not something that should be taken seriously.”

“The Wire” never drew great ratings — its later seasons drew about 3 to 4 million viewers — and broad critical consensus for the series came late, peaking during the fourth season. Eventually, its dense, artful portrait of Baltimore institutions won universal praise.

But while critics and fans rallied around “The Wire,” industry recognition has always been oddly elusive, especially considering that HBO dramas are frequently feted. (This year’s nominees for outstanding drama series were without an HBO candidate for the first time this decade: ABC’s “Boston Legal,” FX’s “Damages,” Showtime’s “Dexter,” Fox’s “House,” ABC’s “Lost” and AMC’s “Mad Men.”)

In an interview last year with The Associated Press, Burns lamented the lack of industry respect for the show’s largely black cast of actors.

“These guys clearly cut the mustard. They can act with anyone,” says Burns. “I don’t know why it has to be this ‘You can play a drug addict; you can play the good sidekick.’ These are the roles that these actors end up doing and it’s a shame.”

Shot on location in Baltimore, “The Wire” was far from the TV’s typical playgrounds of New York and Los Angeles. It didn’t feature any glamorous big names, either, although Idris Elba, Oscar nominee Amy Ryan and Dominic West have seen their profiles rise.

The fact that the cast was largely black fed perceptions of a subtle racist resistance by Emmy voters. Some have joked that the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences watch shows in alphabetical order (though that never hindered “The West Wing”). And not even the most passionate “Wire” fans thought the show’s final season, which turned its focus to the newsroom of the Baltimore Sun, was its best.

But rarely does a work of popular entertainment arrive on television with such serious ambitions. “The Wire” sought to portray the complexity behind urban decay in American cities — and a lot of folks just didn’t want to hear about

*shakes head* this show was amazing, the acting was on par with any top Hollywood film and everything about the show was vastly authentic and real. it wasn't about just being a black show or whatever...it was about taking tv where it hasn't been before and maybe thats why industry critics fear it, because its such a politically real program that they just aint ready for it.

Wall-E Review by Fish

Pixar movies seem to be able to bring kiddy things back to being awesome by ages of so many (well, those who like to have a laugh and care, and also to those who aren't slight morons), Wall-E was no exception...
Photobucket

This movie was simply Ace. Story-wise, Wall-E is the man, his personality is funny, easy to like and through that you get into the movie with ease. Other characters like Eve, MO! and the 'reject' ones were too funny at times. It also nailed the point about how humans will be if we got lazy and relied everything on technology (get fat and sit in a chair all day not discovering our surroundings) the reactions between the two Eve and Wall-E both comical and cool, but even the captain provides little fits of laughs.

Graphic wise...Pixar pretty much show in every film how much improvement gets made in each film they make. once you see the visuals in this movie, when the camera zooms out and such and passing the landscape, it really does fool most peoples eyes in believing its real scenery around Wall-E just zooming about. Also watch out for an iPod like feel for the movie if you go watch.

For me, going into animation, Pixar are pretty much my inspired reason for that route. Ever since Toy Story came out, I believe they were pretty much the first to be successful with CGI movies. Readin up on how they would do their research on making movies, and generally coming up with stories makes me love the company more, knowing that they are generally a free flowing happy load that just love making stories for people to enjoy upon for all ages really.

The one major major flaw of this....expect idiots in your cinema...seriously throughout it Me and my brother were stuck with some idiots (prolly 17/18...maybe 16...idiots still) in moments quiet you can hear them loudly and clearly with the following:

- "awww"

- "AAAAAWWWWW"

- "AWWW I WANT A WALL E TOY!"

- "awww MAKE YOUR MOVE WALL E!"

- AWW HE'S GOT AN UMBRELLA!!"

- "AW NO WALL IS THERE CLIMBING!"

FUCK OFF! FUCK OFF! FUCK OFF! I AM NOT BLIND! I CAN SEE THE MOVIE AS WELL AS EVERYONE ELSE!!! SHUT UUUUUUPPP!!

Also, crappy trailers that show before the movie...you know the useless CGI movies. especially that bugs going to the moon...pretty much the trailer WAS THE MOVIE...and its crap.

Overall: ***** 5 stars out of 5, I can never get dissapointed with a Pixar movie, this for me has become the best they've done yet since Toy Story and hopefully they carry on doing more

TrailerTube - Watchmen

Fiiiiish...thats me....another trailer, another...tube...? This time - Watchmen, hugely anticipated next superhero movie with characters from DC. The Game in, Mack 10 out - Will it work?

-
+

Ok so im sure alot of you hip hop fans have heard that Ice cube is coming with a new westside connection album after his next solo album. But due to cube and mack 10 not seeing eye to eye Cube is replacing mack10 with The Game (who is featured on cubes upcoming album).

To me though i just dont see westside connection working without mack. cube n mack had unbeleivable chemistry together. I feel like this move would be like replacing kurupt on the dogg pound with spider loc...its just not going to be the same. regardless the game is nice with it but they wont be able to match the westside connection of the past.

you can give your opinion on this on the Epicnet forum here

TrailerTube - Terminator: Salvation

Fish bringing you first look of Christian Bale in Terminator: Salvation, the new Terminator film setting to be another trilogy:

The film will follow the scenes of things In which John Connor (Bale) is fighting in war with the terminators. Not much robot crazyness to expect from the trailer, apart from that giant foot and the end bit, but to discuss more, click here

Will Eisner's 'The Spirit', directed by Frank Miller and starring Gabriel Macht, with likes of Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L Jackson, Eva Mendes and Jaime King in the movie that has a Sin City feel to it, but won't expect a sequel to that till 2010.

Set to be in cinemas on apparently Christmas Day in the US, so for us UK its supposedly gonna be somethin to watch for in 2009.
there was a leaked trailer before, showing more and such about the movie...but umm that got taken down...but you can look at the beginning thing..and umm...talk about it still by going here.

Fish Presents: MMM!

Fish here, obviously. Being able to now post up stuff on this friggin blog thing I thought it'd be cool to have my own little 'thing' that I could do. Not so sure Who looks at this site much (scarce of members that attend, at least four roughly five!? booo) but it is a funky little forum site which you can just have a laugh on and talk about different things...or even complain, without getting tasered.
One of the most common things spoken about in the forum is movies, and being in love with movies, I tend to give (basic, not so professional) reviews plus also have days of bizarre marathon moments of watching insane amount of certain types/class of movies. With that said, one of the things i'll be having as my special 'thing' (hopefully that doesn't come of wrong) will be 'Movie Marathon Moments'...Triple M...MMM...bop.

So to start it off, few weeks ago I (along with member BlackCat) went through 24 hours of watching 5 crap movies from crap actors, pitted in crap situations and crap scripts, surrounded by other crap actors and crap scenery. The day was crap overall. So click the title of the movies below for the full review, and then generally check out all the other random stuff thats said on the forum. Enjoy!

Chaos
"I have not seen Wesley Snipes act in so long since watching him in Blade Trinity, which sucked hugely, and here he was the bad guy. So why oh why did he look like he came out of the 50's villain catalogue???"

Bloodrayne
"Rayne: my mother was killed and raped by Kagan in front of my eyes
the random guy: well, BOTH MY PARENTS were killed, not by Kagan, they jus died
Rayne: oh....sexy
*sex scene*
Fish: ?? what the fuck? Atleast do it properly there's a fuckin bed in your prison!"

Renegade Justice
Segal is taking over the hood!...and thats about as much as i'll say for the plot...

Hard Corps
This film reminds me how to make a basic crap "action movie"

Pistol Whipped
Steven is such a complete jackass

metal gear solid 4 review by Swiff Epics

For years now metal gear solid has been amongst my top 3 favorite franchises in gaming. I never got to play metal gear solid 1 as I was kind of young when it came out, but I played metal gear solid 2 and fell in love. Then I played metal gear solid 3 and fell in love with the series even more and then went back to play metal gear solid 1.
Now metal gear solid 4 is here, and to be honest after playing this addition to the series metal gear is no longer a top 3 franchise for me. Instead it is now THE BEST franchise I have played period, above grand theft auto and final fantasy.

The game kicks off with snake in a middle east disguise being transported in a truck with some other middle eastern soldiers untill the truck gets ambushed by pmc soldiers(liquid ocelots controlled group of soldiers) and some metal gear gecko's(who are a pain in the ass whenever you come across them) you then have to navigate your way out of the area unnoticed because if your seen, those gecko will whoop your ass.
Now the game is split up into 5 acts, and from trailers and pictures it looked a lot like this whole game was based in this middle eastern warzone area. But I was quite surprised to find out that this wasn't the case. In fact you are only in the middle eastern warzone for the first two acts. In other acts you'll find yourself in eastern eaurope and even shadow moses(yep the setting for metal gear solid one is revisited)..and when you do go back to shadow moses, mgs1 fans are rewarded with numerous treats that compliment the first games experience. this game actualy does a great job with mixing up the gameplay environments

Gameplay wise the game is very satisfying. Of course the aim of every metal gear solid game is to sneak to your target unoticed, and this game equips you with all the tools and gadgets you need to do this. I found it very satisfying laying snake on his back with his tranquilizer gun aimed to take out a solider as soon as he walked around the corner. But the difference with this game is, if your bad at sneaking, then in the first two acts you could actually get away with blasting your way through the game, the only thing you have to take into account with this approach however is that depending on what difficulty you put the game on( I did it on normal) this is not an easy game. Enemy ai is amazing and they will do anything to flush you out.
You may also remember that in previous mgs games you couldn't simply steal enemy weapons and use them. Well this has changed in mgs4...you 'can' take the enemys weapons, but you can't use them straight away, because the patriot system as taken control of all milatary weapons and they all have id's that lock them to a specific solider based on they're nanomachienes, meaning snake won't be able to pull that trigger..BUT, early in the game you'll meet a gun dealer who can unlock the guns for you, and you can even buy more weapons from him. This makes the game exciting as you have a huge arsenal of weapons to choose from, soon enough, taking down those gecko does not become a problem.
Boss fights are also very challenging and each boss is very unique in they're own right, I won't get into it too much because you really just have to play the game.
There's also an aspect of snakes sneaking suit I would love to reveal but I feel its just one of those things you have to come across to really appreciate. this game has tonnes of replay value, everything you collect ams buy during gameplay you can use on your next playthrough from the get go.

The character development is very satisfying also. And im sure a lot of you remember raiden from mgs2. Some of you loved him but a lot of you hated him, but like him or not, raiden really steals the show from snake a couple times in this game (the raiden vs vamp fights, OH MY) his character specifically has really changed from when you last saw him. But a lot of the favorites are still there, otacon, meryl, may ling, naomi, vamp, liquid ocelot..and a good couple of surprises.

Story wise this game does a really good job in wrapping up everything that's happened so far, once you play this game through, the story in previous games won't seem so far fetched anymore and many questions are answered.

With emotional and gripping storytelling, addictive and intense gameplay, funny easter eggs thrown in by hideo. A very solid online mode(fooling people online with the age old box trick is very funny), And an ending sequence that may blow your mind. This game is just a complete epic from start to finish, there is no other game like it. If there is one game you would buy ps3 for if you don't have it then this game should deffinatly be it. It gets a 5/5 from me.

5/5 stars *****

Game geeks, they annoy me! A rant by Fish

I've been building up on many thoughts lately...and its come to my attention that I should talk about the most pointless one...

when thinking about it, i've been called a geek, but if anything i'd rather be called a nerd, simply cause there are differences.

Geeks however I do like, I don't mind some at all, but its when you take it too far...you game geeks, you piss me off...I say you but I dunno who exactly i'm pointing it to

I hate you game geeks, because you find it solely comforting to think you are God.

I hate you lot for thinking insulting people through making a megabyte joke is funny, and then later invite your friends on XBL (Xbox Live) or PSN or Yahoo Chat OR MSN, OR AOL, OR SIMPLY CALL THEM TO YOUR HOUSE TO CURE THAT PAIN IN YOUR ANUS to do the same thing, now turning into an americanised frat-fucker.

I hate you game geeks for thinking about love scenes with CGI effected/polygon texted women, and then will demand in forums and towards the company to go see a love scene with a specific character, jus so you can get your thrills and such. yes, fantasizing is an interesting thing, but when you take it to the max, i'm sorry but its jus reality check needed.

I hate you game geeks hoping for a Dreamcast Deux (2), why think it?? why?

I hate you game geeks for loving Sonic, simply because i'm thinking with your fan request and possible death threats to Sega, you pressured them into making Shadow, AKA the NOW Token Black Guy, and then Silver, the foreign like fuck-tard.

I hate you game geeks for being "SO SERIOUS", 'Aztec Moon': XBL player, if anyone plays, and knows this fucker, he is one of them. You annoy me, and there are many like you on the net that really jus need to shut up

I hate you game geeks for thinking you're knowledgeable about games when you pass judgement through graphics only. Shiny things are amazing, but games can be terrible (hour of victory = Prime Example)

I hate you game geeks that hit on girls through the likes of WoW, or Second Life.

I hate you game geeks that sell their body through WoW, or Second Life, jus for fake money.

I hate you game geeks for when I say "i'm gonna go snowboarding/play football/go out/not be indoors" I will possibly looked at as demon, and when I come back, I will be compared to master chief, but in the eyes of a grunt, brute, and arbiter himself. Then I will have to listen to your cheap attempt at a insult, and then will possibly have to see you grow another pimple.

I hate you game geeks because you prove to be one by getting stroppy when we call you one as a joke, then you ask me most likely to define terms. What terms exactly need defining? Take the joke and stop staring at me in that way...please!

Its not just gamer geeks, but they're the ones that piss me off. There are some you can casually say are geeky and they laugh with you because its all in the fun and they would know you don't mean it. But...get a life, please, stop irritating game companies especially and jus let them work, if they ask questions openly, then answer back. and if you hit on someone through WoW, please for the female, juuuuust dont equally be a moron, and end up falling (like in recent news) for a pedo.

end.
